spcaLA Night with the Dodgers August 20th

Join us for spcaLA Night with the Dodgers!
LA Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs
Thursday August 20th
7:10pm
Dodger Stadium
August 20th is spcaLA Night with the Dodgers! spcaLA and the Los Angeles Dodgers join forces to raise much needed funds and awareness for the programs and services of spcaLA. This annual event is a great opportunity to commune at the ball park with other animal and/or baseball lovers. To thank our generous supporters, spcaLA has arranged a special bonus for this year’s game: the LA Dodgers have the best record in MLB and are number one in the National League!
On the 20th, the Dodgers will face the Chicago Cubs. Will this first game of the three game series be a repeat of last year’s Division Championship? The best way to find out is to buy your tickets through spcaLA by clicking here or call 323-730-5300 x232. DISCOUNTED tickets are available in a variety of sections at GREAT prices. Plus, buying tickets through spcaLA will benefit the abused and abandoned pets of Los Angeles.
Tickets are available for almost any size group, so call today for your social or work group. Help us get the word out by clicking here to download a flyer to post at your favorite local coffee shop or community bulletin board.
The Dodgers Pre-game eBay Auction starts August 17th. Up for bid are celebrity and player autographed baseballs, Dodger tickets, Dodger memorabilia and more. Proceeds benefit spcaLA's programs and services. Click here to go to spcaLA's eBay page.
We need YOUR help to make spcaLA Night with the Dodgers a SUCCESS!

ACTION
Hot Weather Tips
With hot temperatures afflicting Southern California for the next few months, spcaLA reminds people NOT to leave pets or children unattended in cars. Even a quick trip to the store can be deadly. On a hot day, the temperature inside a parked car can soar up to 160 degrees. This temperature is hot enough to cause heat stroke and permanent brain damage in children or pets.
spcaLA urges people to consider the following hot weather tips to prevent a tragedy from occurring:
-Keep plenty of clean, cool drinking water available at all times for your pet, including when traveling. If your pets are left alone during the day, ensure that their bowl is tip-proof.
-Keep your pet at home. Never leave your pet in a parked car, not even for a minute.
-Protect your pet from the sun. If your pet must stay in the yard (instead of the cool indoors which is recommended) be sure there is adequate shade and ventilation.
-Keep pets groomed. To help your pet stay cool, clip coats short, but not shaved. Sunburn is a danger to animals, especially light-colored animals. Apply regular sun block to vulnerable areas such as the ears and nose.
-Dog pads burn easily, so avoid hot surfaces such as asphalt on hot days. Exercise pets in the morning or evening when it is cooler. After hiking, make sure to check for fox tails and other burns, as these can cause major problems.
-If a pet is overcome by heat (detected by excessive panting, heavily salivating, and/or immobility) immerse him or her slowly in cool water to lower body temperature, and then go to a veterinarian. Never immerse a pet in ice cold water, as it may cause shock.
-Carefully go over your pet’s body at least once a week to check for fleas, ear mites, bumps, cuts or any abnormalities. Use a good flea and tick repellent recommended by your vet.
If you see an animal overheating in a locked vehicle, take down the make, model, and license plate and have the owner paged in nearby shops. Contact spcaLA’s Humane Officers at 800-540-SPCA (7722) or the local police department immediately.

PAW'LLYWOOD ENDING
Kitten Palooza 2009
Kitten Palooza was July 11th at the South Bay Pet Adoption Center in Hawthorne. This cat and kitten adoption event was a great success! In addition to the Sound 100.3 providing the tunes, Honest Tea supplied refreshing beverages and Natura Pet products provided free pet food samples to the paloozers. The South Bay Pet Adoption Center adopted out 20 cats and kittens in one day! Folks came from all over Los Angeles to adopt kittens and cats from spcaLA; some even adopted felines in pairs. Thanks to all who participated and helped make the day a happy one.
