Shauna Romero

Shauna Romero brings to spcaLA over 15 years of animal handling and training experience; six of those years working as a professional dog trainer. As with most professionals in the animal business, her passion for animals and training began with a beloved childhood pet: her dog Sissy.

Shauna graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Animal Science and minors in both Equine Science and Ag-business. While working on her education, Shauna was also able to find time to volunteer at the local animal shelter. While there she helped run numerous shelter programs including Humane Education classes and fostering puppies and dogs in need of behavior rehabilitation. One of the programs Shauna is most proud of participating in is the Heeling Touch program which matches at-risk youth with at-risk shelter animals giving young people from the community a chance to help homeless animals as well learning new life skills to help them become successful adults.

During Shauna's summer breaks she helped run Camp Paws, a series of one week camps that offer children in the community a chance to work with shelter animals learning about pet safety, obedience, agility, animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering pets.

Shauna's experience is not limited to dogs. She also has worked with cattle, pigs, sheep, chickens, and horses.  One of her favorite memories from Cal Poly is running the Thoroughbred Enterprise, where she managed a group of twenty students that oversaw the care of Thoroughbred mares, yearlings and weanlings.

In addition to Shauna's other animal experiences, she has also been fortunate enough to dabble a little in the entertainment industry with her adopted Shih Tzu mix named Kiki who was in a local commercial in Northern California. Shauna currently shares her love and time with her canine companions Kiki and Mojo.
