Planned Giving

older man holding dogThe Importance of Planning for Tomorrow...

Today, financial planners agree that it is the failure to take action, not the absence of opportunity, that is a major impediment to a person achieving his or her financial objectives. It takes a lifetime to build an estate. We believe it is worth some planning today to preserve your estate for tomorrow.

Creative gift planning can be one of life's most satisfying and rewarding experiences. As we confront the challenges of the future, we know that the generosity of those who support us at spcaLA will make all of the difference in our success. If we can provide any assistance during your planning process, just let us knew. We'll be glad to explore options that benefit you, your heirs, and our mission.

Society of Guardians

Many friends of animals choose to invest in the work of spcaLA by establishing a planned gift designed to benefit the organization. The Society of Guardians was founded in order to provide assistance and support for donors who are considering establishing a planned gift. It is also a vehicle whereby the spcaLA board of directors and staff can acknowledge the extraordinary contribution members are making of the Society's long-term financial health.

Charitable Trusts

Place cash or an appreciated asset, such as stock, real estate and jewelry, in a charitable trust which pays you an income for you and your spouse's lifetime. When that time concludes, the asset is given to spcaLA.

Insurance Policies

Name spcaLA as primary or secondary (contingent) beneficiary to a life insurance policy or IRA.

Direct Gifts

A direct gift of cash or securities designated to the endowment fund will qualify the donor for Society of Guardians membership.

When establishing a will, you may consider several options :

  • Pay the estate taxes owed to the government within nine months of death in cash. The government may then spend those dollars in ways which you may not have chosen.
  • Make provisions that tax dollars, which would have been owed to the government, be gifted as a bequest to spcaLA to be used to insure the future welfare of animals.
  • Designate a residuary percentage of a specific amount of cash or specific item to be gifted to spcaLA. This amount will be designated as deduction against your estate and will not be subject to estate tax liability.

Endowment

Endowment is the financial cornerstone of the Society of Guardians. Gifts directed to the spcaLA Endowment Fund will be invested by The Society under professional asset management, in perpetuity, with income and gains used to meet future needs of The Society in its service to animals.

Undesignated Gifts

Undesignated gifts to the Endowment Fund enable the Board of Directors to put proceeds from your gift to its best use, as the needs of spcaLA change.

Designated Gifts

Match the use of your Planned Gift with your specific area of interest in animals or the work of spcaLA. For example, a cat lover might want to name one of spcaLA's catteries, a space where cats are kept uncaged until they are adopted. In addition, there are many naming opportunities associated with spcaLA's P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center in Long Beach.
