Overview

The state of California Education policy says that: “Each teacher shall endeavor to impress upon the minds of the pupils the principles of morality, truth, justice, patriotism, and a true comprehension of the rights, duties, and dignity of American citizenship, and the meaning of equality and human dignity, including the promotion of harmonious relations, kindness towards pets and the humane treatment of all living creatures.”

It also states that: “Live animals housed on the premises of a public elementary or high school shall be housed and cared for in a humane and safe manner.”

The Humane Education department of spcaLA is committed to teaching the community about compassion and respect for all living things. These teachings enable our youth to understand the interdependence of all things on this planet and the vital role each person plays in making this world a better place.
