Teaching Love and Compassion

spcaLA's ground-breaking violence-prevention program

Los Angeles - Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) is proud to announce a new session of our international violence-prevention program for at risk youth, Teaching Love and Compassion (TLC), this week.  The media is invited to film at the spcaLA South Bay Pet Adoption Center in Hawthorne on Friday, October 31 at 4:45pm or by appointment.

Targeted to children in the middle to high-school age ranges, TLC breaks the cycle of violence by teaching empathy and non-violent conflict resolution skills.  The students learn to work together to improve their life skills, as well as to socialize and train shelter dogs, helping to make them more adoptable.

An ongoing program of spcaLA, TLC is offered several times during the year to students in the Hawthorne, Long Beach and LA Unified School Districts.  As an ancillary benefit, graduates of the TLC program often show improvement in reading and writing skills, in addition to respect and empathy for all living things.

The current TLC session runs for three weeks and media are also invited to attend graduation on November 6 th at 5:00pm.

To schedule an interview or a date for filming, please contact Mark Cirillo at (323) 730-5300 x252 or (323) 707-1271 or by email at mcirillo@spcaLA.com .
