April 2012

It's that time of the year where lots of young animals come to our shelters. Sometimes they are mamas with litters or single puppies or kittens. spcaLA's excellent Foster Care Volunteers help the pets by raising them in a home environment until they are old enough for adoption. Read more about being a Foster Volunteer here.

spcaLA's annual Baby Shower collects supplies to care for our newest arrivals. Our nursery needs items like Kitten Milk Replacer, puppy food, heating pads, feeding bottles, wee wee pads, and X pens. Check out our list of needed items or make a donation! Thank you for supporting spcaLA!

Vote for spcaLA!

spcaLA is up for a Jumo grant for the Helping Enrich Animals Lives or HEAL™ program. With HEAL™, the spcaLA Animal Behavior and Training Department works with shelter staff and volunteers, enabling them to teach shelter dogs basic obedience and manners, in addition to other in-kennel enrichment activities. HEAL™ participants also work with shelter cats on improved socialization and trust of humans.

Click this link to vote for spcaLA! We could win $2,500 for our HEAL™ program!

holly the cat

Meow! I may be an older girl, but I still have lots of love to give. I enjoy playing with my catnip toys, but I especially love quiet cuddle time with people. Come check me out at the shelter and see what a great girl I am. Holly (12-01808), is a 9 year old female available for adoption at South Bay Pet Adoption Center.

watson the dog

I'm an energetic and playful guy who nonetheless loves to relax with a good belly rub. I'm also a part of spcaLA's TLC violence-prevention program where 7th graders have been training me in basic obedience and agility. I know sit, down, crawl, and roll over. Come meet me and I'll show you what I can do! Watson (12-02421), is a sweet 3 year old Terrier mix available for adoption at P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal & Education Center.
