Pets of the Month
I am a love bug! I love to cuddle and purr. I haven't had a chance to spend a lot of time with other cats, yet, but I am still young, so I can learn to get along. I had a terrible experience recently. I was caught in the middle of a domestic dispute and I was stabbed. The knife broke a rib and nicked my lung, but I am recovering just fine and you would never even know! Even after that, I enjoy the company of people and can't wait to find my new home. Stitch (12-05532), is a 1 year old male DSH available for adoption at the PD Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center.
Are you active? Do you want a dog who loves toys? Do you love chocolate? Then I am your gal! I am a beautiful chocolate Lab, who loves to play, go for walks, and train for teats. Come and visit with me, I know you will fall in love. Cocoa (12-04402), is a 1 year old female chocolate Lab mix available for adoption at South Bay Pet Adoption Center.
This month, spcaLA's pet adoption centers are in need of gently used or new towels and small bites dog food for adults and puppies.

For 135 years, spcaLA has been on the forefront of animal welfare in Los Angeles as well as California and beyond.
Did you know spcaLA was the first organization in Los Angeles to sterilize animals before placing them in homes? Long before the enactment of legal mandates and trendy public relations campaigns we took steps to prevent unwanted litters. We were also the first to design shelters and enrichment programs centered around the health and well-being of our animals.
At spcaLA, we are always striving to improve our organization. Recently we revamped and improved our program, HEAL (Helping Enhance Animals Lives)™.
The new HEAL program is structured to provide volunteers and staff with both knowledge and hands-on training. It encompasses many new pet enrichment activities, classes, and training opportunities. The new HEAL includes dog training workshops, cat handling, cat clicker training, and VIPs (animals in medical isolation) as well as shelter dog training classes like Adoption Academy™, All-Star Agility™, Hollywood Hounds™, and Shelter Scents™.
The goal of the HEAL Program is to utilize knowledgeable and skilled volunteers and staff to help keep animals mentally and physically sound while they wait to be adopted. Volunteers and staff will go through various levels of training and a variety of classes to enhance their ability to work effectively with the dogs in our care. By using incremental steps, called Levels, volunteers will have the opportunity to participate with shelter animals in a multitude of ways.
We are happy to share these accomplishments with you. Without your support, we would not be able to provide an enriching and healthy environment for the homeless and abandoned animals in our community. From the spcaLA staff, volunteers, and shelter pets, thank you for your support!
