Volunteer Services
Community Service Projects
Would you like to help the shelter pets of spcaLA but are unable to make the commitment of a full-time volunteer? Here is a list of projects that you can do within your home, school, group or community.

SoCal Scout Dillon Sisson built shelving in spcaLA catteries
Collecting items for the animals
Animal Food Drives
Collect unopened bags, boxes or cans of animal food. Involve your community, workplace or place of worship by keeping a marked bin in a central area as a drop-off point.
Biscuit Drives
Collect unopened boxes or bags of dog biscuits or cat treats. People enjoy collecting “cookies” for the animals.
Toy Drives
Collect cat or dog toys for the shelter pets to play with. Shelter pets can spend a fair amount of time in their kennel, providing them with safe toys counteracts boredom. Often times, these toys become a source of comfort and familiarity when the animal is relocated or adopted into a new home.
Bake Sale/Car Wash/Recycling
Organize a community fundraiser (or collect materials for recycling) such as a bake sale, car wash, or yard sale, and donate the proceeds to the animal shelter. You may also target fundraising for a specific project (i.e. sponsoring animals in your neighborhood to get spayed or neutered).
Blanket/Towel Drives
Throwing away that old blanket or towel? Instead, organize a “gently-used” blanket or towel drive. Shelter pets enjoy cuddling with and curling up on cushy blankets and towels. We shelters go through thousands of these items each year, so any donation is much appreciated!
Book Drive
Clean out your book shelves for our shelter pets and invite your friends and neighbors to do the same! spcaLA benefits from the sale of donated books through the American Book Drive. To request a book collection box or to schedule pick up of donations greater than 200 books, please contact American Book Drive.
Grass Roots Marketing
Los Angeles is a BIG community; help us reach as many people as possible by becoming a Grass Roots Activist. Spread the word about spcaLA’s upcoming events or special projects by downloading a poster or flyer to hang on the community billboard at your school, gym, meeting place, house of worship, or coffeehouse. Talk to your friends and neighbors, post on your social networking pages, or send an email to your contact lists. You tell your friends, they tell their friends, and before you know it, everyone knows!
