What are the volunteer opportunities?

Volunteer shift is 8:30am to 3pm, Saturday, June 10th for Pet Adoption Day.

    • Application support
      Ensure adoption applications are filled out properly, provide technical assistance, and ensure that the process is moving smoothly to ensure efficiency – you MAY be assigned to be a “card runner,” which involves being on your feet, walking back and forth. If you do not wish to be a card runner but would like to help with applications, please select Application support: (no “card running”) when you sign up.
    • Cat adoptions (**PRE-REQ: Cat Care & Handling**)
      Assist with showing cats to potential adopters.
    • Clean up crew
      Help make the P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center look ready for a new day by picking up any remaining trash and putting tables/chairs back where they belong. SUNDAY, June 11th, 8am-10am
    • Dog adoptions (**PRE-REQ: Adult, Level 2 or higher**)
      Assist with showing dogs to potential adopters. NOTE: adult/youth volunteers will not be assigned to dog adoptions for Pet Adoption Day.
    • Doggie valet
      Look after owned dogs as their owners explore the event, clean crates between dogs, replenish supplies, escort dogs and owners to the doggie intro area.
    • Greeter (**PRE-REQ: Outgoing, “people” person**)
      Welcome people to the village, answer questions, direct foot traffic, & get people excited!
    • Maintenance prep crew
      Dog-crate building (doggie valet), chair/table set up, other various tasks. This role requires lifting and being on your feet. FRIDAY, June 9th 10am-2pm
    • Marketplace helper
      Morning set-up, customer service, pass out event SWAG bags
    • Parking Monitor
      Help direct patrons to parking areas – be the first face of spcaLA!

What should I expect as a volunteer for this event?

In addition to having fun and helping pets find new homes, you can expect:

      • To be at the event from 8:30am to 3pm on Saturday, June 10th.
      • To have a delicious – FREE – lunch donated by local businesses.
      • To answer questions.

We recommend you bring sunscreen, a hat, and a snack. Food will also be available for purchase at food trucks and water will be provided. Please plan to bring your lunch if you have special dietary concerns.

Is there an event orientation?
    • A little closer to the event, we will email you with more information about parking, your volunteer assignment, and other event details. Your staff leader will provide instructions on the morning of the event – no pre-event orientation required! If you have questions, or need clarification , please contact Sariah at serdtseick@spcaLA.com.
What if I'm getting a ride or taking Lyft/Uber?
    • Arrive at the Village at 8:30am
What about parking?
    • Volunteer Parking will be in the “Drag Strip” area of El Dorado Park. There will be a shuttle bus to take you to the Village and back.
    • Public Parking will be in the “Drag Strip” area of El Dorado Park and the Village lot.
What should I wear?

Please wear your volunteer “uniform” – apron, ID badge, shirt, pants, and closed-toe shoes. You may also wish to wear a hat. Please do not wear items featuring the logos of other animal welfare agencies.

Is there an adoption fee discount?
