Puppy Agility
  • Puppy Agility is a low impact, beginner friendly class that is a great outlet for the active puppy. Learn how to help your dog navigate agility obstacles like the tunnel, chute, and on-the-ground jumps (low impact for growing puppies). Have fun building the lines of communication with your dog through training and learning a new sport together.
  • Price: $120
    Dog ages: 3-12 months.
    Schedule: 6 weekly classes, 1 hour in length
    Prerequisites: Dogs must be friendly towards other dogs and people.
Inappropriate Agility
  • If your dog gets overly distracted by other dogs or people, this class is for you! Inappropriate Agility is specially designed for dogs who have had some instruction in Agility, but do not do well with other dogs. Only one dog will be permitted in the fenced-in area at a time, all other dogs will remain on-leash working on focus exercises when not working on the Agility equipment.

    Prerequisites: Instructor Approval, as well as knowledge and high ability in clicker training, sit/stay, down/stay, and recall from 10 feet away. Please do not enroll without approval from spcaLA Director of Behavior & Training.
1. Intro to Agility
  • Intro to Agility is designed for all ages, sizes and skill levels. Learn how to help your dog navigate agility obstacles while having a great time together! This class helps to build the lines of communication between you and your dog through training while learning a new sport together.
  • Price: $120
    Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: 6 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites:
    Sit (for 30 seconds)
    Down (for 30 seconds)
    Come from 6 feet away, with distractions
    Social with all people; strangers can hold leash
    No reactivity with other dogs moving in close proximity
2. Agility Beginner A
  • Agility Beginner A builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in Intro to Agility.
  • Price: $125
    Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: 6 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.

3. Agility Beginner B
  • Agility Beginner B builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in Agility Beginner A.
  • Price: $125

4. Agility Novice A
  • Agility Novice A is designed for all ages and sizes. Learn how to help your dog navigate agility obstacles while having a great time together! Agility Novice A builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in Agility Beginner B. We will start progression of weave poles, seesaw, owner handling turns, and crosses.

5. Agility Novice B
  • Agility Novice B builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in Agility Novice A. In this class, we will continue with sequence progression and longer lead outs.
  • Price: $125
    Dog ages: 6 months and older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.

6. Intermediate Agility A
  • Intermediate Agility A builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in Agility Novice B. In this class, we will progress toward competition, and develop a competition skill set for both handler and dog.
  • Price: $125.
    Dog ages: 6 months and older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites:
    Off-leash familiarity with all obstacles

7. Intermediate Agility B
  • Intermediate Agility B builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in Intermediate Agility A. In this class, we will progress toward 12 weaves, and the development of competition skill set for both dog and handler.

8. Advanced Agility
  • Advanced Agility is designed for teams that are currently competing or are ready for competition. Note: There are several different groups that offer agility competition, and they each have variations in their standards for equipment and team rules.
  • Price: $130.

    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites: Instructor Approval/Demonstration of Skills

Agility for Competition
The following offerings are suited for teams currently competing or at competition level.

Advanced Agility for Competition
  • Advanced Agility for Competition is an off-leash competition class designed for teams that are currently competing or are ready for competition. Emphasis is placed on multiple changes of direction, deceleration, acceleration, longer lead-outs, lateral distance from the handler and perfecting handling maneuvers such as front and rear crosses, threadles, 270s, and difficult entries to the weave poles. Permission of the instructor required prior to enrollment.
  • Price: $130.
    Dog ages: Skill based.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites: Instructor Approval.
Agility Competition, All Levels
  • Agility Competition, All Levels is open to students of all levels who are training for competition or actively competing. Course work and drills will be based on your choice of current priorities. You may choose to run a course designed for your skill level or to work on a particular skills, e.g. contacts, weave poles, front cross, rear cross.

    Dog ages: 1 year or older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites: Running full course, all obstacles, off-leash at the Intermediate or higher level.
Agility Competition, International Course Design
  • Agility Competition, International Course Design is an off-leash competition class for students who are competing in USDAA/AKC/UKI and want to successfully qualify on European-influenced courses. Courses incorporate many changes of direction and complex handling combinations such as those encountered in USDAA’s Master Challenge courses. Students will be challenged to execute multiple changes in direction requiring mastery of threadles, serpentines, 270s/back sides, wraps, etc. The class will include skill drills as well as running courses of up to 20 obstacles, including all contact equipment (A-frame, dogwalk, and teeter) and weave poles.

    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites: Instructor approval.
Agility Competition, Traditional Course Design
  • Agility Competition, Traditional Course Design is an off-leash competition class for students who are competing in USDAA/AKC/CPE/ASCA. Courses incorporate changes of direction, but are more “flowing” in nature, allowing students to master the handling skills required for those courses. This includes driving lines, distinguishing between acceleration and deceleration, handling from a distance, and skilled execution of front crosses, rear crosses, serpentines, etc. The class will include skill drills as well as running courses of up to 20 obstacles, including all contact equipment (A-frame, dogwalk, and teeter) and weave poles.

    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites: Instructor approval.
Agility Games
  • Agility Games! is designed for teams that are currently competing or are ready for competition. In this four week session, students will learn common agility games such as gambles, snooker, steeplechase in addition to learning the differences between standard and jumpers. Courses will be run each week using a different game and skill work will be developed depending on strategy and handling.
  • Price:>/strong> $85
    Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: 4 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites: Instructor approval or demonstration of skills at first class.
Agility Run
  • The spcaLA agility field and equipment are available to rent for practice sessions. There is a standard class course set up for training. Reservations are available for 30 minute time slots.Once a reservation has been made and paid for, up to two additional guests may participate with reservation holder at their discretion during the reserved time slot.
    Participants must provide proof of current vaccinations before accessing the field. spcaLA provides access to the field and equipment only. Reservation holders are responsible for any additional materials such as shade/umbrellas, crates, water bowls, etc. Equipment is set up but you may need to move equipment as needed. Time slots will be reserved on a first come, first pay basis. Time slot reservations will be confirmed when payment is received.

    Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: Individual 30-minute sessions.
    Prerequisites: Current student, Knowledge and use of all contacts and weave poles.
Agility: Intro to Competition Handling
  • Agility: Introduction to Competition Handling is designed to prepare students for competition courses and is a stepping stone toward Novice or Intermediate Competition classes. Students will learn handling strategies that will most efficiently, clearly, and quickly run their dogs through a competition course. Skills to be introduced are the positional cues and footwork for front crosses, rear crosses, shoulder turns (pulls), threadles, serpentines, and deceleration and acceleration (compression and extension) cues. Double-box setups will be used extensively to practice these handling strategies. Contact equipment (dogwalk, A-frame, teeter) will not be used. Class must have a minimum of 4 enrolled students. If minimum is not reached, students will be notified and money refunded.
  • Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: 6 weekly classes, 1 hour in length
    Prerequisites: Prior experience running full sequences of 8-10 obstacles off leash.
Masters Agility
  • This private class is for handlers who are already competing at the local or national levels. It is available only by instructor invitation.

Please note:
spcaLA group training classes are for friendly dogs and their owners, looking to learn. Dogs must be in good general health and current on vaccines. spcaLA only uses positive training methods and training tools. We do not support the use of aversive collars such as prong, modified prong, pinch, choke, or shock collars. spcaLA group training classes are NOT meant for:

  • Dogs who growl at or are otherwise unfriendly to people;
  • Dogs who have bitten people or other animals;
  • Dog who exhibit aggression or other behavioral issues.

If your dog exhibits any of these behaviors, or if your dog does not meet class prerequisites, you will be dismissed and no refund will be issued. If your dog has behavior issues, private training is available. Please call (562)570-4910 to discuss options.
