Julia grew up with dogs and cats, but had not envisioned a career with them. After moving to New York City and volunteering with several animal welfare groups, finding a position in animal welfare became her goal.
She soon left her position as an officer manager to realize her dream. Over the course of 5 years, Julia gained hands-on knowledge of animals by working as a dog-walker, veterinary assistant, and at a doggie daycare/grooming salon. During this time, Julia also undertook an intensive four-month dog trainer apprenticeship to further understand dog behavior.
Julia returned home to Southern California in 2014. After visiting spcaLA with her family, Julia was determined to find a position in the agency. She joined spcaLA as an Animal Care Counselor in 2015 and became an Animal Behavior & Training Specialist one year later. Julia loves the daily challenges and rewards working with animals bring!
