Grooming Policies & Recommendations
HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
All pets must be in good general health and have a good temperament to receive grooming services. Dogs and cats must be a minimum of 4 months old to receive grooming services. Senior pets over the age of 12 years will be accepted on a case by case basis for grooming services and grooming services may be limited depending on the frailty of the pet. The owner of a senior pet that is determined to be especially frail must remain in the lobby during the grooming process so that the pet can be taken home immediately after the services have completed. If a senior dog needs to be held up by an additional employee during the grooming process, a Handling Fee will be added to the total cost of grooming. We cannot accept any pregnant pets or females in heat.
The owner of dogs that are destructive will be held liable for all damages caused to our grooming banks and tubs and any injury that the dog may inflict upon itself while engaging in destructive behaviors. This policy is applied to any and all destructive dogs regardless of the reason for the destruction. That is, whether the dog has separation anxiety, fear of loud dryers, or any phobia or generalized escape behavior. Although we allow dogs with these problems to be groomed at our facility, clients must agree to this policy and leave them at the grooming salon at their own risk.
We cannot accept pets that are aggressive with people. Grooming is an invasive and hands-on service that requires us to work closely with the pets. If your pet acts aggressively towards a person to a degree that the staff feels unsafe handling the pet or removing the pet from the grooming bank, the grooming services will be cancelled and the pet must be picked up immediately. If the groomer is able to perform all requested grooming services on your pet with the assistance of a second employee, a Handling Fee will be added to the total cost of the grooming appointment. If your pet bites or attempts to bite the groomer or other member of staff that may participate in handling, your pet will immediately be returned to the grooming bank and the remaining services will not be completed. You will be contacted immediately and required to pick up your pet as soon as possible. All completed services must be paid for at the time of pick-up. If the pet is determined to be too aggressive to receive grooming services, the pet will not be allowed to return for future grooming appointments.
In order to maintain a safe, comfortable environment, we require all pets to be current on their rabies vaccinations and recommend waiting at least 48 hours after receiving the vaccine before coming in for an appointment. Puppies and kittens under the age of 4 months will not be able to receive services in the salon. Please bring proof of the rabies vaccination with you on your first visit and any time you have your pet’s vaccinations updated. spcaLA and the Veterinary Public Health Department recommend that all dogs who are frequently exposed including but not limited to travel, competitions, boarding, grooming, and group play activities be vaccinated against canine influenza, including H3N2.
LENGTH OF SERVICE/STAY
The type of service requested determines the length of stay. Bathing typically requires no more than 1.5 hours and haircut appointments, no more than 2.5 hours. Our policy is to have all pets on their way home within 2 hours of service completion due to limited space and the comfort of the animals. Please let us know in advance should you need special arrangements. If your schedule does not allow for pick-up within this timeframe, we reserve the right to charge a $10 holding fee/late pick-up fee for stays determined to be in excess of 120 minutes. If your dog urinates or defecates in the grooming bank while waiting to be picked-up and requires a second bath, the dog will receive another bath at the owner’s expense. If you pick up your pet after closing time, you will be charged a dollar for every minute after closing time that you are late.
If you prefer, you may wait while your pet is being groomed. Our clients are free to shop in our retail Pet Marketplace, visit our Pet Adoption Center, take a stroll in the Nature Center or wait in our lobby area while their pet is being groomed. However, for the safety of all pets, we do not allow owners to wait inside our Professional Grooming area.
IF YOUR PET SHOULD BITE A PERSON
If your pet should bite a member of staff or another animal, a bite report will be filed with Long Beach Animal Care Services and your pet will be quarantined in accordance with state and local laws. You will be called immediately and the pet will remain in its grooming bank until pick up.
CANCELLATION | NO-SHOW POLICY
Please provide a minimum 24-hr cancellation notice. Like any service industry we appreciate ample time to fill your appointment should you be unable to make it. We have limited availability, especially during peak service times such as on the weekends. If you are running late to your pet’s scheduled appointment, please call us to inform us that you are on your way, as your appointment timeslot will only be held for a maximum of 15 minutes. Depending on groomer availability, if you arrive later than 15 minutes for your scheduled appointment time you may have your appointment rescheduled or your service downgraded. Please understand that when you are late it affects our ability to provide timely service for other clients that day.
