Lauren is a native Southern Californian who was born in Torrance and grew up in Carson. Her love for animals flourished during her childhood as she cared for her family’s dogs, birds, fish and hamster. In high school, she participated in Carson High School’s Accelerated Teaching Career Academy (ATCA), where she was introduced to the career path of working with children and becoming a teacher. ATCA gave her the opportunity to tutor at nearby elementary schools, where she enjoyed contributing to the education of children in her community.
As a young artist, Lauren pursued a tattoo apprenticeship in San Pedro, where her interests in working with people in the community continued to grow. She went on to earn her A.A. at El Camino College in Torrance and her B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach.
In the summer of 2016, she had the opportunity to combine her passion for helping and teaching others with her love for animals, and she began working with spcaLA’s Violence Prevention & Humane Education Department as a Camp Counselor. She then took on the role of Pet Care Educator, responsible for teaching Pet Care Workshops during the school year, and returned as a Camp Counselor for the summer of 2017. Now, as a Humane Educator, Lauren is excited to use her creativity to teach those in the community about empathy and compassion while making a positive impact on the lives of shelter animals.
