spcaLA Hosts Pet Care Workshop at A Place For Youth

February 13, 2024

New partnership brings humane education to West Adams

Los Angeles, CA — Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) brings its beloved Pet Care Workshop to A Place For Youth (APFY) on Wednesday, February 14th in the West Adams neighborhood of Los Angeles. The two-hour workshop teaches young animal-lovers responsible ways to care for pets and to help animals in their communities.

The youth programs of the spcaLA Violence Prevention Humane Education Department support the development of healthy relationships and compassionate communities. “Our goal is to prevent animal cruelty and interpersonal violence,” said Madeline Bernstein, spcaLA President. “We’re grateful A Place For Youth is offering space to do that.”

A Place For Youth is a space for young thinkers and makers, designed to create a safe learning environment for students ages 13-18 to find vocational and development support, and resources at no cost.

In addition to the Pet Care Workshop, spcaLA will also bring its world-renowned and award-winning program, Teaching Love and Compassion (TLC)™ to APFY later this year. Created in 1994, TLC combines social-emotional learning with animal welfare lessons and hands-on positive reinforcement training with shelter dogs. The most recent class of TLC graduated last week from Richard Graves Middle School in Whittier, CA.

To participate in Wednesday’s Pet Care Workshop from 4pm-6pm, youth may sign-up at APFY located at 4901 W. Jefferson Blvd. in Los Angeles. Visit aplaceforyouth.org for details.

spcaLA offers Pet Care Workshops for youth 6-12 years old at the PD Pitchford Companion Animal Village and Education Center. Visit spcaLA.com to register.
