LOGIN CLASS DESCRIPTION

Agility is a fun dog sport in which you direct your dog through an obstacle course. Agility classes are a great way to bond with your dog while having fun. We offer classes for everyone from the novice to those involved in advanced competition.

Register
Please register for your desired class online prior to its start date. Please note, once you have selected your class, you will complete your registration through our dog training registration portal, hosted by Mindbody.

For Agility Competitors, we offer Agility Runs the first Friday of most months. Participants must be able to run the full agility course off leash without instruction.Click here to learn more & register.

 

Class Descriptions

1. Intro to Agility
  • Intro to Agility is designed for all ages, sizes and skill levels. Learn how to help your dog navigate agility obstacles while having a great time together! This class helps to build the lines of communication between you and your dog through training while learning a new sport together.
  • Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: 6 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites:
    Sit (for 30 seconds)
    Down (for 30 seconds)
    Come from 6 feet away, with distractions
    Social with all people; strangers can hold leash
    No reactivity with other dogs moving in close proximity
2. Agility Beginner B
  • Agility Beginner B builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in “Intro to Agility.” This is the second class in the agility training series. For dogs that are new to agility, please see “Intro to Agility.”
  • Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites:
    Focus and attention on handler
    Tunnel and Tire Jump with no lure
    Low A Frame and Teeter
    Teaching Channel Wave
    Modified Dog Walk
    Sequencing Obstacles
3. Agility Beginner C
  • Agility Beginner C builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in “Agility Beginner B.”
  • Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites:
    Off-leash Handling
    Channels Weave Pole Experience
    Raised Teeter
    Raise A Frame
    Experience with Modified Dog Walk
    Collapsed Tunnel
4. Agility Novice A
  • Agility Novice A is designed for all ages and sizes. Learn how to help your dog navigate agility obstacles while having a great time together! Agility Novice A builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in Agility Beginner B. We will start progression of weave poles, seesaw, owner handling turns, and crosses.
  • Dog ages: 6 months and older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites:
    Obstacle familiarity
    Jumps
    Tunnels
    Low Ramps
    Sequence of 6 obstacles
5. Agility Novice B
  • Agility Novice B builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in Agility Novice A. In this class, we will continue with sequence progression and longer lead outs.
  • Dog ages: 6 months and older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites:
    Turns and crosses
    Seesaw 1/2 heights
6. Intermediate Agility A
  • Intermediate Agility A builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in Agility Novice B. In this class, we will progress toward competition, and develop a competition skill set for both handler and dog.
  • Dog ages: 6 months and older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites:
    Off-leash familiarity with all obstacles
    10 sequences
    Crating for competition
7. Intermediate Agility B
  • Intermediate Agility B builds on lessons and behaviors mastered in Intermediate Agility A. In this class, we will progress toward 12 weaves, and the development of competition skill set for both dog and handler.
  • Dog ages: 6 months and older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites:
    Crated
    Straight weave channel
8. Advanced Agility
  • Advanced Agility is designed for teams that are currently competing or are ready for competition. Note: There are several different groups that offer agility competition, and they each have variations in their standards for equipment and team rules.
  • Dog ages: 6 months and older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites: Instructor Approval/Demonstration of Skills

Agility for Competition
The following offerings are suited for teams currently competing or at competition level.

Advanced Agility for Competition
  • Advanced Agility for Competition is an off-leash competition class designed for teams that are currently competing or are ready for competition. Emphasis is placed on multiple changes of direction, deceleration, acceleration, longer lead-outs, lateral distance from the handler and perfecting handling maneuvers such as front and rear crosses, threadles, 270s, and difficult entries to the weave poles. Permission of the instructor required prior to enrollment.
  • Dog ages: Skill based.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites: Instructor Approval.
Agility Competition, All Levels
  • Agility Competition, All Levels is open to students of all levels who are training for competition or actively competing. Course work and drills will be based on your choice of current priorities. You may choose to run a course designed for your skill level or to work on a particular skills, e.g. contacts, weave poles, front cross, rear cross.
  • Dog ages: 1 year or older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites: Running full course, all obstacles, off-leash at the Intermediate or higher level.

Pricing $180-$190 per course (prices subject to change)

Please note:
spcaLA group training classes are for friendly dogs and their owners, looking to learn. Dogs must be in good general health and current on vaccines. spcaLA only uses positive training methods and training tools. We do not support the use of aversive collars such as prong, modified prong, pinch, choke, or shock collars. spcaLA group training classes are NOT meant for:

  • Dogs who growl at or are otherwise unfriendly to people;
  • Dogs who have bitten people or other animals;
  • Dog who exhibit aggression or other behavioral issues.

If your dog exhibits any of these behaviors, or if your dog does not meet class prerequisites, you will be dismissed and no refund will be issued.
