LOGIN CLASS DESCRIPTION

Fun Nose Work classes are designed to develop your dog’s natural scenting abilities by using their love of toys and food. It’s a great way for your dog to have fun, build confidence, and burn lots of mental and physical energy.

Please register for your desired class online prior to the first day of class. Please note, once you have selected your class, you will complete your registration through our dog training registration portal, hosted by Mindbody.


Class Descriptions

Fun Nose Work: Intro
  • If you are new to Fun Nose Work, you will love how much mental and physical exercise your dog gets while he or she is learning to search using methods based on detection and search-and-rescue dog training. You don’t need a yard or bulky equipment to play this game and ANY dog can play—large, small, old or young. Many blind, deaf and disabled dogs have become competitive in K9 Nose Work®. K9 Nose Work® also is safe. Each dog runs alone and all other dogs are kept well away from the search areas to make every dog-handler team feel confident.
  • Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: 6 weekly classes, 1-2 hours in length.
    Prerequisites: N/A
Fun Nose Work: Introduction to Odor
  • Fun Nose Work: Introduction to Odor introduces the different odors and how to pair them with reinforcement. Dogs will begin to learn how to use their nose and begin to establish how to work with you, as well as independently as a team.
  • Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: 6 weekly classes, 1-2 hours in length.

K9 Nose Work® Foundation
  • K9 Nose Work® Foundation is for teams of all levels on odor. Non-competitive students are welcome as well as competition teams. Whether you are preparing for your first trial or competing at Elite this class will help you focus on the important building blocks for our sport including: Pairing; Boxes; Corners; Basic Vehicle focus; Leash handling; Elevation; Ground hides; Trust! With an emphasis on having fun, we will help you to continue to develop the special communication and bond between you and your dog for which K9 Nose Work® is known.
  • Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: 6 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.
    Prerequisites: Fun Nose Work: Introduction
Fun Nose Work: Continuing
  • Fun Nose Work: Continuing continues to work with the different odors and how to pair them with reinforcement. Dog will continue to learn how to use their nose and begin to establish how to work with you and independently as a team.
  • Dog ages: 6 months or older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1-2 hours in length.
    Prerequisites:Fun Nose Work: Introduction to Odors
Fun Nose Work: Intermediate
  • Fun Nose Work: Intermediate is for teams at either NW1 or NW2 level. Searches are altered as necessary to match the level of each team. With an emphasis on having fun, we will help you to continue to develop the special communication and bond between you and your dog that K9 Nose Work® is known for. We also welcome non-competitive students as well as those preparing for trials.
  • Dog ages: 6 months and older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1-2 hours in length.
    Prerequisites: Dogs must be on all 3 of the odors recognized by The National Association of Canine Scent Work: birch, anise & clove.
Fun Nose Work: Advanced
  • Fun Nose Work: Advanced is designed to refine skills needed to compete or attain Fun Nose Work titles with their dog. Dog will continue to learn how to use their nose and begin to establish how to work with you and independently as a team.
  • Dog ages: 6 months and older.
    Schedule: 6 classes, 1-2 hours in length.
    Prerequisites: Fun Nose Work: Intermediate. Must be proficient in all three odors and receive instructor approval. Email training@spcaLA.com for approval.

Pricing
$150 for a 6-week course (pricing subject to change)

Please note:
spcaLA group training classes are for friendly dogs and their owners, looking to learn. Dogs must be in good general health and current on vaccines. spcaLA only uses positive training methods and training tools. We do not support the use of aversive collars such as prong, modified prong, pinch, choke, or shock collars. spcaLA group training classes are NOT meant for:

  • Dogs who growl at or are otherwise unfriendly to people;
  • Dogs who have bitten people or other animals;
  • Dog who exhibit aggression or other behavioral issues.
