Jo grew up in England with German Shepherds and cats. After moving to the U.S to work and travel, cats were her only animal companions until 2011, when she made Long Beach her home. She adopted a “senior” dog from spcaLA’s Long Beach location, with the intention of giving a senior dog a happy forever home and to ease into becoming a dog parent. Carlito was not a typical senior, he lived with Jo for 8 years and was an active companion who stole her heart and reintroduced her to the joy of dog companionship.
In 2020, JJ, a smart and active German Shepherd puppy became family. He required “a job” and Nosework was recommended by a trainer friend. Jo and JJ began Nosework in early 2021 and quickly became hooked. Nosework has provided JJ the dream job, and they are currently competing at Elite level in NACSW sanctioned trials.
After experiencing firsthand the positive impact of Nosework on her dog and their relationship, Jo’s passion has led her to train to become a Certified Nosework Instructor, hoping to bring more opportunities for dogs and their people to enjoy this activity.
Professionally, Jo has worked in healthcare for almost thirty years in both the UK and U.S, spending twenty years as a critical care nurse before moving into an administrative position managing an academic research center focusing on neurological restoration.
