spcaLA classes focus on positive reinforcement and having fun with your dog! We offer classes for puppies and dogs of all skill levels. Start with the basics, like sit and down, and move on to more complex training at our fun, positive-reinforcement obedience training classes!

Class Details
Pricing: $125-$160. Class sessions range from 4-6 weeks.
Please Note: spcaLA group training classes are for friendly dogs and their owners, looking to learn. Dogs must be in good general health and current on vaccines. spcaLA only uses positive training methods and training tools. We do not support the use of aversive collars such as prong, modified prong, pinch, choke, or shock collars. spcaLA group training classes are NOT meant for:
- Dogs who growl at or are otherwise unfriendly to people;
- Dogs who have bitten people or other animals;
- Dogs who exhibit aggression or other behavioral issues.
If your dog exhibits any of these behaviors, or if your dog does not meet class prerequisites, you will be dismissed and no refund will be issued.

Class Descriptions

- Puppy Preschool™ teaches the basic manners necessary for a happy home and a well behaved puppy. Puppies will be given time to socialize with other puppies and people if appropriate.
- Dog ages: 8 weeks to 16 weeks.
Schedule: 5 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.
Prerequisites: One set of puppy vaccinations given at least 7 days before first class and a health clearance.
- Puppy Kindergarten™ teaches foundation obedience and covers topics such as appropriate play, puppy enrichment, and preventing unwanted behaviors such as jumping and mouthing. Class will include safe, interactive environments and confidence building games. Puppies will be given time to socialize with other puppies and people if appropriate.
- Dog ages: 3 months to 6 months.
Schedule: 5 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.
Prerequisites: Proof of first round of puppy vaccinations and rabies vaccine, if applicable.
- Level 1: Magical Manners™ teaches sit, down, wait, come, touch, watch, and focus. These are the skills your dog needs for advanced behaviors such as calmly greeting new people, coming when called while off leash, and heel.This class also provides an opportunity for your dog to focus on you with the distraction of other dogs and people in close proximity.
- Dog ages: 16 weeks or older.
Schedule: 5 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.
Prerequisites: Dogs must be able to work in close proximity to other dogs(3-5 feet) with no barking. Dogs who cannot meet these requirements may be excused from class.
- Level 2: Outstanding Obedience™ teaches the skills needed to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen® Test. We work on and expand our basic behaviors taught in Level 1: Magical Manners™. We also work on expanding our distance and duration of behaviors.
- Dog ages: 18 weeks or older.
Schedule: 5 classes, 1 hour in length.
Prerequisites: Pass Level 1 Magical Manners™ or be able to sit for 30 seconds, down for one minute, front, side(get ready), touch, be comfortable with clicker and have a heel position. Must be able to work in close proximity to other dogs(3-5 feet) and people without a reaction.
- Come When Called I is designed to develop and strengthen your dog’s distance recall, both on leash and off. Lots of fun and productive games to help you and your pet master this skill.
- Dog ages: 16 weeks or older.
Schedule: 6 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.
Prerequisites: Social with all people; strangers can hold leash.
- Come When Called II is designed to practice your dog’s distance recall, both on leash and off. We run this class in the agility field using some obstacles for your dog to get around in order to get to you!
- Dog ages: 18 weeks or older.
Schedule: 4 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.
Prerequisites: Come When Called I; social with all people; strangers can hold leash.
- Canine Parkour is a new dog sport, sometimes referred to as “urban agility.” Parkour is all about ways to move through the environment, going over, under, and between naturally occurring obstacles. It’s great for all ages and types of dogs, as the level of difficulty can vary to best suit your team. It can be a great way to boost a dog’s confidence, build strength, and enhance your relationship with your dog. It is a fun way to make walks more interesting, too, and can be practiced nearly anywhere. Parkour is a non-competitive sport, many titles are available if you choose to exhibit. Safety is paramount during training and performance.
- Dog ages: 6 months and older.
- Schedule: 4 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.
- Prerequisites: Must be able to sit, stand, and heel with luring, and be able to work in proximity with other dogs & people (6 ft.) with no barking or lunging.
- Intro to Rally for Dogs is a fun mix of obedience and agility that dogs of all ages and breeds can do. In Rally, the emphasis is on the dog heeling next to you.While they are heeling, you will ask for them to do a number of different behaviors including sit, down, stand, stay (while you walk around them & while you walk away from them), as well as calling them to you either on the front, side or around your back to settle on your right. There are many variations to the exercises. Whether you want to compete or are simply looking for another activity to do with your dog, this class is great! We teach both AKC® and Cynosport® Rally.
- Dog ages: 6 months and older.
Schedule: 4 class, 1 hour in length.
Prerequisites: Must be able to sit, down, stand, heel with no luring, and be able to work in close proximity with other dogs & people (6 ft.) with no barking or lunging.
- Does your dog pull you down the street? It’s time to make your daily walk a joy instead of a chore. Sign up now for Pooches That Pull, an intense 4-week class that will help turn you and your dog into the envy of your neighborhood!
- Dog ages: 18 weeks and older.
Schedule: 4 classes, 60 minutes in length.
Prerequisites: Able to work in close proximity with other dogs and stay focused on the owner. Have completed a positive reinforcement, basic obedience class.
- Have fun while teaching your dog new things! Roll over, beg, crawl, close doors are just a few things we will learn.
- Dog ages: 18 weeks and older.
Schedule: 4 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.
Prerequisites: Ability to lure and some previous clicker use.
- Advanced Tricks will help you sharpen your dog’s current skills while developing new ones! Advanced Tricks class features challenging exercises such as chain behaviors and working away from the handler. Working with platforms and shaping. Dogs and handlers will work with hand signals, verbal cues and props.
- Dog ages: 18 weeks and older.
Schedule: 4 weekly classes, 1 hour in length.
Prerequisites: Tricks Training.
