Make a direct impact on the lives of abandoned, abused, and neglected animals – join spcaLA’s veterinary team! Our goal is to provide a comprehensive preventative and therapeutic approach to animal care. Conventional medicine, enrichment and training, as well as complementary and alternative treatments are considered and integrated for the benefit of shelter pets, who are often recovering from abuse and/or neglect.

Your expertise will benefit animal victims of abuse, lost and surrendered animals, pets of domestic violence survivors and other community members in crises. Your skills will support animal cruelty investigations, disaster response efforts, foster programs, and low-cost vaccine clinics.

Recent spcaLA Veterinary Team Successes

Dusty

Dusty came to spcaLA as a part of an animal cruelty investigation, and required a lengthy recovery program of veterinary care and nutrition. After 395 days in the shelter, he was adopted in November of 2022.

Moses

Moses, a two-month-old single stray kitten came to spcaLA malnourished and with a pronounced limp and swelling. Medical intervention required an amputation and a comprehensive medical plan. Moses is now living his best life with his new mom in Idaho.

Butternut

An spcaLA Animal Cruelty Investigators came upon, Butternut a very sick Poodle-mix puppy. He needed round-the-clock care, including IV fluids, a feeding tube, medications, and observation. Butternut pulled through, and recuperated in a foster home. He was adopted and his story inspired the cover of spcaLA’s 2021 edition of Friends for Life.
