Animal neglect leads to eye removal for pair of cats
Los Angeles, CA –Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) is looking for a very special home for a pair of bonded 6-month-old, one-eyed, orange Tabby cats. The brothers, Carrot and Tangelo, are emotionally connected and must be adopted into a home together.
Carrot and Tangelo came to spcaLA as stray or lost pets on the last day of August of this year. spcaLA’s medical team immediately observed that both cats appeared to have chronic, untreated infections in their eyes. Unfortunately, the neglect had gone on so long that both cats required enucleation surgery. Each cat had one eye removed: Carrot’s right eye and Tangelo’s left eye.
“Both cats are recovering well and should have their stitches removed soon,” said Madeline Bernstein, President spcaLA. Bernstein goes on to say, “We cannot tell how long the brothers went without medical care, but the infection was significant enough that removing the eyes was the best course of action to stop their suffering.”
Carrot and Tangelo are thriving and show no negative signs due to surgery. They are a sweet pair who enjoy playing and cuddling together. They crave human interaction and affection, leaning in for pets and rolling over for belly rubs. The boys also love toys and love to chase toy mice or jingle balls.
Anyone interested in adopting the brothers can meet them at the spcaLA PD Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center or view them online at spcaLA.com. The fee for adopting a “Purrfect Pair” (two cats) is $220 total. The adoption fee covers vaccines, neuter surgery, microchip, and a certificate for a free health exam at a participating veterinary hospital.
