Dog Adopted After 1,139 Days at spcaLA Shelter
Los Angeles, CA — The holidays came early this year for Cinderella, a 6-year-old Pit Bull mix who was adopted today after 1,139 days at the spcaLA PD Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center in Long Beach. News of her adoption was a gift to the staff and volunteers of Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) who have cared for her for the last three years.

Cinderella’s Adoption Day
Cinderella was transferred to spcaLA from Long Beach Animal Care Services on August 28, 2020. Since then, spcaLA provided hundreds of hours of animal behavior training, as well as a steady stream of enrichment to keep her engaged and happy. In October 2022, Cinderella required a TPLO surgery (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy) for a cranial cruciate tear. Performed by one of spcaLA’s veterinary hospital partners, the $3,000 procedure was made possible by donations from spcaLA supporters. She spent one month recovering in foster care in the home of an spcaLA Volunteer.
Why did it take so long for Cinderella find a home? It may have been her breed or age – Pit Bull, 6-years-old – two things she could do nothing about. spcaLA shared pictures and videos of her on social media, and Cinderella appeared several times on local TV hoping to entice an adopter. Ultimately, a family came to the shelter asking, “Who has been here the longest?” After a couple of meetings, and a week to prepare, Cinderella’s wish came true. She now has a family of three with four feline siblings of her very own.
“Staff did an excellent job keeping Cinderella healthy and joyful while she was at spcaLA,” said Madeline Bernstein, spcaLA President. “I also must acknowledge our donors. Without their support, this happy ending would not be possible!” spcaLA is a non-profit agency that relies on donations for its programs and services, including animal cruelty investigations.
