CURRENT IDENTIFICATION TAGS, MICROCHIPS, AND VACCINES
With increased visitors and activity, pets can sneak out of the house. Most pets are found by neighbors, so make sure your pets are wearing ID tags and collars with current information. Remember, a registered microchip will help a speedy reunification and current vaccinations will help keep them safe from common, preventable illnesses.
KEEP YOUR ROUTINE
Increased activity and visitors can upset your pets’ routines. Try to keep them on their regular schedule for feeding and exercise.
PET CHILL ZONE
Depending on your pet’s personality, you may want to create a quiet zone away from the commotion. Set up a room with a soft place to lie down and a high-value chew. Play soothing music or an audio book for a relaxing atmosphere.
SUPER BOWL SPREAD
Remember to caution others (both kids and adults) not to give your pets anything except their normal treats. Guests may not always be aware of dangers that seem very basic to you. Cooked bones splinter and can be fatal to pets, too many off-the-table bites can lead to an upset stomach, and fatty foods over time can lead to severe problems down the road.
SUNDAY AND EVERYDAY
Training your dog provides mental stimulation, reduces anxiety and enables you to have more control to manage your dog safely. spcaLA offers group classes focusing on positive reinforcement dog training.
GO RAMS!
If your pet is supporting the Rams, make sure they are doing so in a shirt made specifically for them. Don’t force them — some pets don’t enjoy wearing clothes.
One last reminder: keep Valentine’s candy away from pets. Chocolate and Xylitol (a common sugar substitute) are poisonous for dogs and cats, so keep pets away from toxic treats and their wrappers. Just in case, keep the number of your local poison control center handy.
