Make This Earth Day a Hoppy One: Adopt A Rabbit

Rabbits make eco-conscious pets

Los Angeles, CA — This Earth Day, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) is encouraging you to consider welcoming four low-carbon pawprints into your home by adopting an environmentally friendly rabbit!

While dogs and cats are America’s most popular pets, they have an enlarged carbon footprint mostly due to their carnivorous diets. Rabbits require less food and produce less waste. They eat small amounts of Timothy hay, vegetables, rabbit pellets, and dark leafy greens. Their waste, which is rich in nitrogen and phosphorus, makes an excellent fertilizer.

Besides being eco-warriors, bunnies are darn cute! They can be trained to use a litter box, know their name, and can learn low-impact agility or play games. They are social animals that need interaction daily, their own space with a hutch, and a hard chew to keep their teeth trim.

View spcaLA’s adoptable rabbits at spcaLA.com, or better yet, visit them in person. Adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchip, and a certificate for a free health exam at a participating veterinary hospital.
