Peafowl Will Be Trapped and Relocated in Rolling Hills Estates

Los Angeles, CA – Earlier this month, the City of Rolling Hills Estates announced it would allow private trapping and relocation of peafowl. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) intends to monitor the “relocation” and ensure that the birds are treated humanely.
According to Palos Verdes Peninsula News, Rolling Hills Estates will allow residents to hire private trapper, Wildlife Services to capture and relocate the birds to “adoptive homes.” The trial program was approved by the City Council last month.

“It is within the rights of the city to employ a relocation program such as this,” said Madeline Bernstein, President spcaLA. “However, it is up to us to hold the city and the designated trapper to humane standards for these birds. If inhumane conditions are detected, spcaLA will investigate and file charges as necessary.”

Trapping peafowl within the boundaries of the Dapplegray Lanes Property Owners Association shall remain prohibited.
