Los Angeles, CA — Among the many surprises at Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) this week was the arrival of a rarely seen Xoloitzcuintle, known as Perro pelón Mexicano or Mexican hairless dog.
Pascal, a Xoloitzcuintle available for adoption at spcaLA
The dog, Pascal, approximately 4-years-old came to the spcaLA South Bay Pet Adoption Center in Hawthorne in good spirits on February 23rd.
The 5,000-year-old Xoloitzcuintle or Xolos, known as the Aztec dog of the gods are the oldest dogs in the Americas. Evidence of the dogs has been found in Mexico dating back 3,300 years. They were companions to native peoples, as well as hunters and protectors.
Anyone interested in adopting Pascal, must know that he and all Xolos require a skincare regimen that includes routine daily cleaning and moisturizing. Otherwise, they often make a terrific, even-tempered companion. For those with dog allergies, Xolos typically do not pose an issue.
Pascal is available for adoption today at the spcaLA South Bay Pet Adoption Center located at 12910 Yukon Ave. in Hawthorne. The hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11am to 3pm. More info is available at spcaLA.com./adopt.
