40 summer camp scholarship funds available for Long Beach teens

Los Angeles, CA — Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) is pleased to announce that the agency is a winner in Long Beach’s citywide youth participatory budgeting process, YOUTH POWER PB Long Beach. spcaLA will use the awarded grant money to offer scholarships (including meals and transportation) for a week of Friends for Life Summer Camp™ to 40 Long Beach youth.

To be considered for a camp scholarship, youth must be Long Beach residents 12-15 years old who demonstrate a financial need. Priority will be given to youth residing in zip codes 90804, 90805, and 90813. Camp runs from July 22nd to July 26th at the spcaLA PD Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center in Long Beach. To apply visit spcaLA.com. Scholarship applications must be received by 5pm on Friday, July 12th.

Campers learn care and responsibility for pets, respect for animals, and the beginnings of dog training — all while making new friends! Campers will also explore careers in animal welfare, create advanced animal-related crafts, participate in games that emphasize teamwork, and work with shelter pets to learn dog obedience, agility training, cat socialization, and more.

Youth Power PB Long Beach, is a city-wide participatory budget (PB) process led by the Long Beach Office of Youth Development, The Nonprofit Partnership, The Long Beach Invest in Youth Coalition anchored by Khmer Girls in Action, and California State University of Long Beach Department of Geography. Funding for the Youth Power PB Long Beach program is provided by Measure US.
