spcaLA President to Present at National Animal Cruelty Prosecution Conference

Los Angeles, CA — Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) President Madeline Bernstein will attend the 11th National Animal Cruelty Prosecution Conference on December 13-15, 2022 in Nashville, Tennessee. The conference is presented by Association of Prosecuting Attorneys, in partnership with the Animal Legal Defense Fund.

The goal of this training is to provide prosecutors, law enforcement, and allied professionals with the requisite skills to strengthen links between the criminal justice system and the community by protecting our most vulnerable victims and to enhance prosecutors’ ability to successfully identify and prosecute animal cruelty and animal fighting cases.

Bernstein will speak at a plenary session on the first day of the conference on the topic, Demeanor. She will also lead a breakout session/workshop titled, Pets are Big Business – Follow the Money.

Bernstein is a frequent speaker and commentator on issues relating to animal welfare, ethics and law enforcement. She currently serves as an advisory committee member of the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys Animal Cruelty Division. In 2012, Bernstein was the first Distinguished Visiting Animal Advocate for The Center for Animal Law Studies at Lewis & Clark where she returned as a visiting professor. Also in 2012, she was the recipient of the Boeing Crystal Vision Award. Bernstein is the author of the 2018 book, Designer Dogs, an Expose (Apollo Publishers).
