About Violence Prevention Humane Education

spcaLA’s Violence Prevention Humane Education Department is pleased to offer a variety programs to the Los Angeles community and beyond.

Humane Education at spcaLA is a form of violence prevention and animal protection informed by “the Link” between animal cruelty and interpersonal violence. Our programs aim to support the development of healthy relationships and compassionate communities as one way to prevent animal cruelty and interpersonal violence. We do this by:

  • engaging youth and children in empathy-based animal welfare education and social-emotional learning
  • encouraging youth advocacy for animals, others, and themselves
  • offering violence intervention and support services for adults and families
  • working in partnership with agencies to reduce young people’s involvement in the juvenile justice system
